This year the City of Parkersburg and Wood County Habitat for Humanity (WCHFH) are celebrating anniversaries -- Parkersburg's 200th and Habitat's 20th.

Habitat for Humanity is based on a simple idea. If good people join together to help give a "hand up" to someone in need, the world will move forward. Habitat sells homes to people in need of that "hand up" Habitat then sells them the home without charging interest. IT WORKS!

It all started a year ago with a phone call to SAMS's Club in Vienna. When asked if they would consider providing lunches to Habitat construction volunteers one day each month, SAM's Club Manager, Brenda Ferrell, said "Sure!". Encouraged by such a positive response, Habitate Volunteer Coordinator Gwen Miles continued to make more calls.

Wood County Habitat for Humanity has operated a ReStore since 2001, starting out with a few items and gradually expanding. Because of the generosity of the community, including individuals as well as retail businesses, we have grown enough to need a bigger facility and have relocated to 1448 7th Street.

Looking back over the past 20 years, one word comes to mind - THANKS! Thank you to the wonderful people of Wood County, West Virginia! We exist because of your generosity and continued support. So Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! - Alvin Phillips
