PARKERSBURG -Officials with the Wood County Habitat for Humanity recognized several major donors Wednesday morning.
Habitat Director Alvin Phillips and his staff held a small press event at the soon-to-be completed ReStore on Seventh Street to recognized donors who have contributed about $85,000 to the organization.
"If we didn't have grants we wouldn't be here," said Greg Halterman, ReStore coordinator.
Grants given to the agency include $40,000 from the Ross Foundation; $25,000 from the Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Fund; $14,500 from Habitat for Humanity of West Virginia and $10,000 from the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation.
The organization has also received more than 200 cabinets, stoves and refrigerators donated by HRDE/HRDF.
"This is one of the largest single donations we have ever received," Phillips said.
The new 7,000-square-foot Seventh Street facilities, including adjoining offices, are still under construction. Officials hope to have the store open this fall. Halterman said renovations have taken longer than expected.
"We want to make it right," he said. "You only get one chance to make a first impression."
Habitat still maintains a store on Elder Street in south Parkersburg.
